Led Zeppelin To Recurit New Singer For Reunion Tour?

A while back rumors of a Led Zeppelin reunion were squashed by Robert Plant, via a statement on his website indicating that he would not be participating.

However, a new rumor has surfaced recently, courtesy of former Twisted Sister front man Dee Snyder (of all people). Supposedly, the other original members of Led Zeppelin and Jason Bonham are considering reuniting with the singer of Creed off-shoot Alter Bridge as a sort-of bargaining chip.

Snyder told MuchMoreMusic: “They’re saying [to Robert], ‘We’re all rehearsed, we’re ready to go, here’s a gazillion dollars on the table. If you don’t do it, we’re going out with this kid. And he can sing the shit out of Zeppelin.’ And they’re gonna, like, hope that Robert, at the last minute, will go, ‘OK’, and step in…”

It is quite mysterious how Dee Snyder could know this kind of information, but it is interesting nonetheless.

Jason Bonham, (John Bonham’s son), has gotten many accolades for his drumming at Led Zeppelin’s 02 Arena Reunion show. Dave Grohl even stated in the press that Jason Bonham’s performance was “amazing.” His current kit is somewhat simlar to his father’s in that he plays larger size Ludwig drums.

My own drum kit is meant to be in the style of John Bonham and Dave Grohl, but its a combination of Pacific drums and Tama drums. I’d love to get a set of Ludwig’s similar to Bonham’s setup, as I’ve played them and they sound great.

Halloween Costume Ideas For Drummers

In case you haven’t noticed I created a new page on this blog entitled “Halloween Costume Ideas.” I thought drummers/musicians would find this useful when brainstorming costume ideas this year. It’s pretty hard to come up with ideas that are centered around drumming or drummers.

On that page I gave an example for the ladies of dressing up like Meg White of The White Stripes. For guys though, another great example I thought of would be Tre Cool of Green Day. Now, I don’t expect you to lug around an entire set of Ludwig drums but a Tre Cool costume is relatively easy.

First of all, you’ll need to spike up your hair, if it’s not long enough you can choose from any number of Halloween wigs. Make sure they’re not too long though (you’re going for the look in the pic above). As far as clothes, any t-shirt will do but preferably a Green Day t-shirt, grab a pair of drumsticks and you’re ready to go. Since Green Day released “American Idiot” and that album was huge, a lot of younger kids will recognize this costume and besides the wig and drumsticks, there is little you have to spend money on.

Oasis Announce New U.S. Tour Dates and “Dig Out Your Soul”

Zak Starkey of Oasis

Oasis have announced a chunk of arena shows in major US cities for most of December. After a crazy fan attacked Noel Gallagher in Toronto, earlier this month, the band canceled a number of shows.

The tour also sports opener Ryan Adams & The Cardinals, who will play through the whole tour which starts in Oakland, CA on December 3rd and ends on December 20th in Fairfax, VA.

Although Oasis hasn’t really had too high of a profile in America since the mid 90’s, the band has remained huge in it’s native UK. A lot of news surrounding Noel Gallagher has brought them into the press more, and may even be helping to promote their new album. Also, while nothing complicated is ever played on their records drum-wise, Zak-Starkey (Ringo Starr’s son) can teach you a thing or two about playing for the song. He also has really nice custom DW Drums with a custom British flag paint job.

Oasis Tour Dates:

12/3, Oakland, CA (Oracle Arena)
12/4, Los Angeles, CA (Staples Center)
12/6, Las Vegas, NV (The Pearl)
12/8, Denver, CO (Broomfield Events Center)
12/10, Minneapolis, MN (Target Center)
12/12, Chicago, IL (Allstate Arena)
12/13, Detroit, MI (Palace of Auburn Hills)
12/15, London, Ontario (John LaBatt Centre)
12/17, New York, NY (Madison Square Garden)
12/19, Camden, NJ (Susquehanna Center)
12/20, Washington, DC (GMU Patriot Center)

Ludwig Centennial Maple Drums

Ludwig drums have announced new centennial maple drums, which are the first product being linked to the company’s 100th anniversary in 2009.

“The Ludwig Centennial Series fuses the need for reliable gear with the desire for perfect drum tone in one exceptional package. Expandable to fit the needs of any playing style, Centennial Series Drums are Ludwig’s answer to the battle-cry of the mobile percussionist.”

“The Centennial Series Drums start with 6-ply (toms and floor toms) and 8-ply (snare and bass drums) North American Maple shells. Augmented with Ludwig’s new Classic Micro-Lug, Vibra-band mounting system on toms, and 2.3mm drum hoops, Centennial Series presents the road-worthy player with new ways to expand their spectrum of tone. Centennial’s three “Core” shell packs each come standard with a bass drum (20″, 22″, or 24″, each with a 20″ depth for added low and punch), a 12″ rack tom, 16″ floor tom, and snare drum.”

The kit (pictured above), looks absolutely beautiful to play and I’m curious to see what the reviews will be like. I’ve personally always loved Ludwig’s, as a 1967 Ludwig Blue Sparkle kit (with Supraphonic Snare) was the first I ever played on.
