Bumbershoot 2008 and The Melvins Postponed

Bumbershoot went down this past weekend in Seattle, WA and pitchforkmedia.com has some great photos and coverage up. They have some great shots of Stone Temple Pilots, T.I, Final Fantasy, Beck, Sons & Daughters and many more.

Also, I had planned on attending one of The Melvins shows at The Troubadour this past weekend, except the shows were canceled. No explanation has been given aside from the statement that the shows were canceled “due to illness.” I plan on going to one of the rescheduled dates and getting some video footage of Dale Crover and The Melvins awesome 2-in-1 kit up here.

Outside Lands Festival Review

The Outside Lands music festival took place this past weekend in San Francisco and while I was not present to review it PitchforkMedia was, of course. They have some great photo’s up of Radiohead with their high-tech LED light show, Beck, Wilco and Tom Petty, among others.

The festival boasted a pretty good lineup of major headline acts and smaller but well-known indie acts such as; Broken Social Scene, Drive-By Truckers, Andrew Bird, The Walkmen, Devandra Benhart and more.

New Beck Music Video

Beck Modern Guilt

Beck has released a music video for the track “Gamma Ray” from his new album “Modern Guilt.”

I mentioned Beck’s new material here a few weeks ago because the drumming on what I had heard was great. While not typically thought of as a drum-associated artist, the drums sounded full, solid and vintage 60’s. Another reason I was really digging some of Beck’s new material is because of the late 60’s early 70’s psychedelic production and drum sounds. Recently I’ve been trying to find obscure records from this era.

I’m eventually going to listen to the album on vinyl, and will give some more impressions on the drumming here. Until then, check out the surreal video…

New Beck Song, From His New Album?

Beck Hansen

Beck has debuted a new track from presumably his new album and collaboration with Danger Mouse. The song “Chemtrails” is currently available for listening at his Myspace and Official website.

“The new song is not a single, but showcases Beck and Danger Mouse’s shared affection for late ’60s psych-pop, according to a statement.

Beck’s as-yet untitled, Danger Mouse-produced album is due out this summer, as previously reported”.

While I wasn’t much of a fan of Beck’s last single release “Timebomb” I happen to like this song. It seems like a weird post for a drum blog. Check out the drums on this track though. I’m not sure who played them or how they were recorded, but they sound really full and thick. This track also features fills all over the drum kit. The groove mostly remains on the hi-hat and in the pocket, which I like, especially considering that the song has some pretty soft and understated synth parts.
