Nude With Boots

 The Melvins

So apparently the Melvins new album “Nude With Boots” leaked. I don’t want to post a full review of an album thats not out yet, but just some thoughts.

The album has been completed obviously, but additional mastering may occur later on which could effect the sound. Anyway, upon my first listen I think the album is great and even better than the band’s last record (A) Senile Animal. The production is a lot dryer and the guitar sound is a little more solid. The overall sound is similar to the bands last record yet with an obvious 70’s classic rock influence, mainly in the from of the guitar riffs, there’s also some older-style Melvins heaviness.

Once again both Dale Crover and Coady Willis are playing double drums. The drum sound this time around is much more direct and it seems both drummers are playing more of the parts together. They tend to deviate a little, a lot of times for added percussion flourishes , but mainly they both rock out and do a lot of fills together at the same time.

I’m already liking this record more overall than (A) Senile Animal, and thats saying a lot, since that was also a great record.

Newvins

 Dale Crover

It has been announced as of yesterday (the first I’ve heard at least), that 25-year-veteran alternative band The Melvins will be releasing a new record on July 8th, 2008. The new album is titled “Nude With Boots” and was recorded at West Beach Recorders in Los Angeles, CA and also once again features the duo Big Business as part of the Melvins lineup.

This album comes as the follow up to the bands last record “(A) Senile Animal” which was one of their most successful and well received records out of their entire catalog. Sorry to bum anyone out who has found this page, I DO NOT have the leaked album nor do I even know if it has leaked or when it will. All I know is what I’ve read, and that it WILL be released on July 8th, 2008 via independent label - Ipecac Records.

Anyone who got their last record, knows that since the Melvins and Big Business combined forces, they had double drums and will have double drumming featured on this new album as well. Dale Crover is one of the most impressive drummers currently out there in my opinion, really looking forward to this one…
