Such Hawks Such Hounds
A new documentary on underground heavy music will be shown tomorrow in Los Angeles as part of The Cinefamily, Silent Movie Theatre series.
The documentary is titled “Such Hawks, Such Hounds” and features acclaimed acts such as OM, Acid King, Dead Meadow, Nebula, Sleep and many more. If you are into stoner rock or heavy underground music you know these bands to be essential to the scene, also many of them have great drummers. If you aren’t aware of this scene/style of music, it is well worth checking out if you are in the LA area.
To those who don’t know, a lot of these drummers drum kits vary, as there isn’t one specific set-up or kit to have for the style. A lot of the bands are working with very little money or none at all and often times piece together whatever they can for a drum set.

OM: New Drummer
Drone band and Southern Lord Records recording artist OM have picked up a new drummer. In February 2008, after playing a short west coast tour, original OM drummer Chris Hakius departed the band for unspecified reasons. Hakius had recorded 3 full-length albums with the band and 2 split 7 inches.
The bands new drummer is Emil Amos previously (and maybe still currently of the band Grails). I haven’t heard much of his drumming but the stuff on Grails myspace page; (http://www.myspace.com/grailsongs) shows that he can more than handle the task of playing OM songs.
Having seen OM live and also having been a fan of Hakius’ drumming, I’m interested to see what Amos will sound like live. I also wonder what kind of kit Amos plays. Hakius was playing a standard 4-piece setup although with a lot of different cymbals such as china cymbals, and bigger crash cymbals.
OM is also slated to release a 7 inch with Amos, on Sub Pop Records as well a new full-length this year.
